Deck the Halls: Holiday Decor

If you’re like me, your home is already fully decked out in Christmas decor. Let’s be honest, I’ve had mine up since before Thanksgiving!

Ever since I was a little girl, I loved decorating for the holidays. When the date hit December 1st, I would beg my mom to bring up the countless plastic containers from the basement so I could turn our home into a Christmas wonderland. From wrapping garland down our staircase banister, to thoughtfully hanging our needlepoint stockings on the mantle, to placing candles in each window of the house to light it up at night—this really was, and still is, one of my favorite holiday traditions.

And while I love a decorated home, in my opinion, holiday decor doesn’t have to be overdone or make a huge statement. In fact, I prefer the minimalist approach. You only need a few classic items to add a bit of festive cheer. Today, I’m sharing my favorite decor trends you can use to spruce up corners of your home.

Garland

There’s just something so festive about greenery. Whether you layer it on your fireplace mantle, down your dining room table, or on your TV stand, garland is a simple way to add a touch of classic holiday style to your home. Below are a few faux options (grab ‘em while they last!), but another option, and my personal preference, is to pick up fresh garland from your local florist. I also recommend replacing flowers this time of year with fresh pine or eucalyptus stems—a simple way to add an added touch of holiday around your home.

TABLE decor

This time of year, I like to add decorations to my dining room and console tables. An inexpensive trick is to fill a festive bowl or woven basket with pinecones. You can find cute bowls and baskets at TJ Maxx, Marshalls, or Target for a great price, and pinecone are sold everywhere—from home decor stores to grocery stores. If you have more than one table you want to dress up, consider buying a statement vase, like this pretty gold one, and some fresh holly, eucalyptus, or berry stems from your local grocery store—Trader Joe’s always has a great selection. Lastly, if you really want to go all out, you could buy a mini faux Christmas tree, like the one pictured below. Layer it on a classic table runner for a formal, complete look .

Mantel decor

Spruce up your mantel with a few small trinkets, ranging from felt garland, mini faux trees, stocking holders, figurines, and more. Below are a few ideas to inspire your own mantel decorating. I’m personally a huge fan of the staggered candle holders—and you could keep them out beyond the holidays as well.

doormats

While I normally spend most of my energy inside because I live in an apartment complex, there are still ways to spruce up outside, too! Doormats are an easy way to elevate your home’s style, no matter the time of year. Below are a few my favorite holiday themed options that I’ve stumbled on. I especially love the Joyeux Noel one.

holiday scented candles

Last, but not least, we all know candles are the way to make a home feel even more homey, especially during the holidays. I burn through candles quickly as I normally have one going throughout my work day. Here are a few my favorites I suggest you give a try, too!

I hope these ideas inspired some of your holiday shopping for your home decor. Let me know your favorite festive decor pieces below.
